About GLASS

GLASS is a group that has evolved through history.

In 1977, it was originally founded as the Gay and Lesbian Alliance of Baruch College, or GALA.  It served as a support group and safe haven for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender students at Baruch College.  The group's purpose was to educate and create a tolerant community in the college.  It served as a social club, an educational club, and a political club.

Throughout the years, the group evolved to become a gay-straight alliance, as many friends came to support their fellow students.

In the Fall of 2007, to mark this transition, the group was renamed The Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Society of Baruch College, or GLASS.  Today, after being in existence for more than 30 years, the group still provides a safe haven for all students to express their feelings and strives to build a tolerant community at Baruch and to bring more awareness to students about the LGBT Community.

That's So Gay!

Hello Everyone!

On Tuesday, October 7th, we will be holding the first event of LGBT History Month, titled "That's So Gay!"  The event will be held from 12:40 to 2:20 in VC 3-215 and refreshments will be served.

At the event, we will performing skits that will demonstrate the use of controversial words, such as "GAY," "FAGGOT," "DYKE," "QUEER," "FAG HAG," etc.  We will also be discussing the appropriate times that these words can be used and what causes these words to be taboo.

So definitely come out (NO HOMO...) and check the event out as we explore our everyday speech.

We hope to see you there!
