Hello fellow Baruch students! Thursday September 6 will be our First General Meeting for the Fall 2012 semester. It will be held in our regular meeting room in VC 4-190 and refreshments will be served. This will be a chance for new and old members to meet, get to know each other, and have fun. The meeting will include:

• Ice breakers and games
• Mingling

GLASS Summer Picnic

Although it may be the beginning of the Fall semester, Summer is still rocking and we are too! As per tradition, we will be having our annual GLASS picnic this coming Sunday!! Bring your friends, new GLASS members, food, frisbee, drinks, and a craving for delicious treats and a great time.

The meetup will take place on the east side of Arthur Ross Pinetum picnic area, which is just north of the Great Lawn.

Planning for LGBT History Month

For the past few weeks, GLASS has been working hard with student life in preparation for LGBT History Month this October. All of us on the LGBT History Planning Committee are deeply excited for the prospects of the upcoming program at Baruch! We will be sure to keep you posted as not all the events are set in stone, and plus we wouldn’t want to spoil the fun.

The Bernard Baruch Awards

This last week, GLASS received the honor of being nominated twice for the Bernard Baruch Achievement Awards. Receiving recognition for Best Recurring Event and Program, as well as Best Diversity event. Although GLASS did not end up taking home an award, we have come a long way from previous years where we had not even received a nomination. This in itself is recognition of the hard work and commitment our members have put in to make this organization succeed.  I believe that I can put it no better than our Treasurer of GLASS, William, who stated, “We always keep raising towards higher goals. That’s what makes us so special. Always reach higher.”  Thank you everyone for your hard work and making this a great year for GLASS. Let’s look forward to reaching farther and to greater heights.

GLASS @ NYC Pride 2010

Join G.L.A.S.S. as they march down 5th Ave. for the 2010 NYC Pride March!

When: June 27th, 2010

Time: 12:30 P.M.

Where: Line up on 37th St. b/w Madison & 5th Ave. @ 12:30 P.M.

G.L.A.S.S. is in Section 11, Group 17. We are between Harlem United and Transport Worker's Union. Look for us between these two large groups on 37th St. Be there on time! Officers will not let you join our group along the parade route. Step off time is at 1:00 P.M.

LGBT History Month at Baruch

This year, Baruch College has chosen to officially recognize LGBT History Month in October for the first time ever!

We will be holding several events to celebrate this month in October.  The events are still undergoing planning, but here is a brief overview of what is to come in our events.

10/7/2008 - That's So Gay! - The words that people use and their effects.

10/15/2008 - Sí, Soy Gay - A discussion on how Latino Culture has had an influence on the lives of Latinos in the LGBT Community.

10/16/2008 - National Coming Out Day Information Table - 2nd Floor Lobby (VC)

10/21/2008 - Transgeneration - A screening of Transgeneration, a documentary about Transgender and Transsexual college students, followed by discussion.

10/30/2008 - FREAK FEST - The second annual Halloween Party at Baruch.  There will be a costume contest (and maybe a Drag Queen and King contest!).

We are trying to figure out whether or not it would be a good idea to have the Drag Queen and King contests.  Please comment on this post and let us know what you all think about this idea! :)
